I’m not going to commit and call this couch from Bobby Berk ‘The Perfect Couch’. It is quite a fine beast, though.
I will, however, take a stronger position to say that This American Life is the best radio program of the last ten years. It’s what I listen to on road trips with my wife, so we enjoyed it a few weeks ago on the drive up the 101 to Oregon, en route to the in-laws.
Episode 309 is called Cat and Mouse. There’s a piece about a man who’s spent over a decade looking for the perfect couch. I’d never last that long, nor would I be so authoritative to call one couch the ‘perfect’ one — context is everything — but it’s still a fun bit to listen to. And I do think most people have a particular piece of furniture or home decor that they care about more than all others.
